The Children’s Museum & Theater of Maine has been steadily growing both its visitor-ship and educational offerings for more than 25 years. But, the physical limitations of their current downtown space have restricted their ability to expand their programming and service all those they wish to be engaging with.
The Museum & Theatre is a welcoming and valuable community asset, offering a diverse array of educational opportunities specifically developed for children and their families, caregivers, and educators.
The Museum & Theatre provides families with unique opportunities to play and learn together. In addition to offering one-of-a-kind, hands-on exhibits, the Museum & Theatre leads daily educational activities for all ages and produces fully-staged theater productions featuring youth actors.
Based on a careful study of community needs, the Museum & Theatre’s work focuses on the following key areas:

The International Cryptozoology Museum is the only one of its kind, in the world! Cryptozoology is the study of hidden or unknown animals, such as Yetis, Bigfoot, Lake Monsters, and Sea Serpents, as well as hundreds of other yet-to-be-found animals (cryptids) worldwide. The ICM has been featured on Time Magazine’s Top 15 Weirdest Museums in the World, and has won many other awards including Roadside America’s Top Choice to Visit August 2018.
Color Me Mine is a paint your own pottery studio that offers classes, is available to be rented for parties of all kinds, and most importantly, is a fun place to visit anytime and paint! From flowerpots, to wine glasses and everything in between, CMM is fun for all ages. Color Me Mine is also BYOB, so you can carry in some Bissell Brothers beer! Come get creative!
